PRECAUTIONS TO TAKE WITH A SUSPENDED CEILING

Suspended ceiling or drop ceiling is one of the most popular and inexpensive ceilings. Drop ceilings are now available in various styles and colours. Basement Ceilings by Snap Clip is one of the best options that are available. Before making a decision about a suspended ceiling, there are some cons which you should know before making a decision. Following are some safety concerns in regard to a suspended ceiling.

  1.    Makeshift installation:

As the name suggests a suspended ceiling is suspended from the ceiling with the help of metal wires. There might be times when the support is not very thick. After the tiles have been placed into the metal grid there in a lot of weight on the metal supports. Adding any extra weight to a section could increase the risk of collapse. Keeping that in mind, you should be cautious while adding any extra weight to it like light fixtures, insulation, ductwork or wiring.

  1.    Water Damage:

One of the main reasons why people opt for a suspended ceiling is to conceal the plumbing and wires which run in the innards of the house. With the ducts being above the ceiling tiles, a leak can soak and rot the tiles. Soaking and rotting of the tiles can cause it to fall.

  1.    Faulty Wiring:

A suspended ceiling can be effectively used to hide faulty wiring. In case of an electrical fire in the plenum, it could cause smouldering to the insulation and would contain it until the smoke finally gets to the room below, by this time it would be too late. In order to avoid such incidents, it is best to have a low voltage wiring above the suspended ceiling.

  1.    Rodent infestations:

The space between the suspended ceiling and the fixed ceiling often serves as a home for rodents. Rats and other rodents enjoy the airflow and moisture which escapes from the ductwork. This can cause long term rodent infestation. These rodents often carry diseases with them. If enough time has passed, the waste of these rodents can find their way on to the floor below.
